2D Western Research Images

2D Post Apocalyptic Background Research

I have created a mood board for my 2D Post-Apocalyptic scene, I thought that instead of getting second hand images from games and movies I looked into actual cities ruined by nuclear bombs, warfare and other disasters. My main influences being the London Blitz and Chernobyl, they were left with a lot of buildings destroyed but still kept a lot of detail of what was happening at the time of the incident.

2D Laboratory Research Images

I have decided to design a laboratory scene in 2D for my Showreel, I was influenced by the background scenes of Dexter's Laboratory and also Science Fiction movies for their overall feel and cluttered design. I will develop different designs to see if I will create a background for a pan shot or a room. Looking at the backgrounds with characters in I might pose a character to show the viewer how the overall scene would look as an animated piece.

Character Model Sheet - Lip Sync

I am going to use this character for my lip sync animation, I wanted to focus on my animation skills within my showreel rather than my character design process with permission I will use this female character. I feel that she will work well with the quotes that I found.

Lip Sync Research - Part 1

I have found these three different movie quotes for my lip sync character animation study. I feel that I could have a lot of fun with all of these quotes and show a lot of energy with the body acting.

Mr Woodcock - I'm and Alcoholic, not a Barbie doll.

Student Bedroom Photos

These are photographs that I have taken of my house mates bedrooms and my own, I felt that the images I found on the internet were useful to help me get the right layout for the overall scene. However the rooms felt staged and I wanted a typical student room full of personal objects and to compare what are the most owned belongings and pieces of furniture that a student would own. These have given me a good idea of what objects I could model in Maya to make the scene look more interesting.

Body Animating - Acting Draw Over

This character acting was drawn over based on my original character body acting images, my lecturer has condensed the scene into four key images rather that the six I designed to get the flow of the dialogue to show in the acting. I now understand that the way I had designed the scene was overacted and did not feel natural, next time I will make sure to properly act out the scene to get the actions perfect and to analyse the hand movements.

3D Model Student Room Research

Research images for my student room scene, I like how I can clearly see how the layout of each room looks these will help me when I come to design a floor plan. However I do not think these images clearly portray a typical student bedroom. I will make sure to take some photos of my own room and the rooms of my student house mates to get more ideas for what objects and furniture to put in the scene.

Z Brush - Week 3

In our week 3 Z Brush lesson, we learn't how to dynamesh a model. We were asked to create a character or object starting with a simple sphere. I made my character design that I created in my Character Design Lecture that week. Overall seeing as this was the first model that I had made in Z Brush I was fairly happy with it. The only major problem I encountered was building the head level with the perspective view, I found it difficult trying to get the head and features even on both sides. But with practice hopefully I wont have this problem in the future.

The last three images are all at the same stage of development, but showing the different angles of the head. I feel that the hair came out really well and the fire designs shows through very well. It still needs work, as I still need to add in the eyeballs and add more detail to the face. This model took me around 2-3 hours, but I will work on improving my speed so that I will have time to use my knowledge of this software in my Showreel.

James Coleman Research - Business Case Study

Some website links to help me with my Business Case Study paper. I have decided to write my repot on James Coleman, a background Stylist for The Walt Disney co.

Body Animation Rough Outline

I have created a very rough character poses to go with my Anchorman quote, I tried to push the line of action as much as I could for the "Hey Everyone" line. I think with the inbetweens these poses could work really well together.

Character Body Acting Animation

I have chosen a quote from Anchorman 1, to create my body acting animation.

3D Model Showreel Research 2

These images have given me some useful ideas that I can use for the 3D models in my showreel. Next I will draw up a brainstorm to get all of my ideas out on paper, so I can start an initial idea to base my 2-4 models on.

3D Model Showreel Research

Research for my 3D model designs for my showreel, I came across these images from different video game and movies. I love the use of curved and straight models creates a great contrasted. I am not sure as to whether I will choose to create an interior or exterior model, I will develop some sketches to see what design would work best in 3 Dimensions. If I feel that either design would work I may consider using a design for one of my 2D backgrounds.
