Fishbowl Colour Palette

Here is a rough colour palette design for my fishbowl scene, I have tried out some very different colour palettes to get an idea of how I wanted the scene to look. As I need the audience to believe that the rig is in the ocean, I decided to stay away from the flamboyant and bold colours that you would tend to find in a childs' ornamental fishbowl like in the first and third designs. I have chosen the second design to base my textures and colours on, adding a bump map to the ship and treasure chest will make the ship seem like it has been underwater for a long time while also giving it an almost plastic feel.

Final Animatic

Hand Drawn Storyboard

Above is a rough hand drawn version of my storyboard, I will be uploading a digital version soon because I have added a few extra scenes to my animatic to make the flow better of the overall piece and to show a few more angles of the character and environment.

Sunken Ship and Treasure Chest Research

Sunken ship and treasure chest research for the main setting for my animation. Some images are taken from real life ships, I have looked at actual fish bowl ornaments to get the style that I am looking for. Even though I want the ship to look realistic I will add in subtle hints that the audience will notice after the bedroom scene to show that it actually is a plastic ornament not a real ship wreck.

Kids Bedroom Table/Chair Research

Research for childs bedroom objects, the table will be the resting place for the fish bowl in my animation.

Bedroom Research

Some research images of little girl bedroom, this will be seen when the character realises that he is inside of a fishbowl and not at the bottom of the ocean. Looking at each of the images there are a number of objects that each of the rooms have, I will develop the design of the room over time I want a clear place for the bowl to go so that when the camera zooms out the character and environment can still be seen in the foreground.

Fish Bowl Research

The idea for the fishbowl which will be the main setting for my animation, even though this will not actually be apparent until the camera will zoom out of the shot to reveal that the rig has shrunken down into a childs bedroom. I have considered a variety of options, and decided on the simplistic round bowl, even though this is not the most complex of designs I thought that because the room will be for a young child that they would not likely have a fancy and expensive bowl in their bedroom. The only objects in the bowl will be a ship and a chest so the main area of the bowl will not need to be that big.

I will be adding environmental aspects to make it look like the bottom of the ocean, like sand and seaweed to make the background more interesting but not diverting the attention away from the character.

Diving Helmet Research

When I first started on my story idea, I want my character to have a prop to make it clearer to the audience where the rig has ended up. The easiest and quickest way of getting this across was to give him a diving helmet. Looking at lots of different images and researching into different designs I originally thought of giving him a larger antique helmet, however I then realised the this would dramatically distract the audience from the facial expressions of the character seeing as the majority of the animation will be silent.

Out of all of the examples I feel that the best possible design for my character would be the modern glass bowl, because I can rotate the camera angle around the rig and see is head clearly from every direction.
